GLEAM: The (accidental) Sensational Hair Oil from Killer Strands

Readers Suggest Tricks They Have Found For It56983681

In many of the hundreds of emails I receive daily I am pointing people here and there and everywhere to go to in order to help them find the solutions they need to solve their hair issues. The other day I sent one reader to the Post on GLEAM and how to use it.. . . which I have done many times before. She was the only one to come back and tell me there wasn't one, whoa did I feel stupid. Cherie, this one's for you.
Fu74334179nny part about this; I have followed and done extensive research in an Indian form of medicine that is over 4000 years old, called Ayurvedic, since my introduction to YOGA 8 years ago. I believe in it with all my heart and soul . . .its a bit edgy . . and with Californians already getting a bad rap for being "out there"... I guess I have been hesitant to bring it up. Oils are a huge part of Ayurvedic medicine, and if a country of 2 billion people can have success and believe in it for 4000 years - who are we to not be open to hearing about it at least? Alas . . . I'm writing about them, they have worked wonders for my clients and myself - so this is the introduction and soon I will be writing about the 3 new Oil-combos I have coming out that will help your hair and skin more than any of those high end conditioner conglomerations.

Gleam. Gleam was my introduction into studying and combining oils. Through Ayurvedic medicine they have tested and used specific oils over the hundreds of years to find the proper oil for a certain "body type." What it is not is "hey lets get some CRISCO oil and slap it on the hair".... What I have done,in the same light, is study the "properties" of each individual oil then combine it with Ayurvedic's solution for each body type. There are probably 100 + Fixed/Carrier Oils, out there...as soon as think I have heard of all of them - - a few more pop up - - just last night I read about a new "coffee oil", made from the coffee bean! Here is an over-simplified version of what is said about some of the oils:

Almond oil - practically odorless, provides good slip and glide for massage. helps to relieve itching, irritation and inflammation, and soothes dry skin. it lubricates the skin well, but does not penetrate it quickly, which again makes it good for massage and for protecting the surface of the skin. However, it goes rancid quickly; it is helpful to blend it with 10% of wheat germ or jojoba oil for storage. . . relatively cheap.
Apricot Kernel oil - particularly helpful for dehydrated, delicate, mature, or sensitive skin; soothes inflammation and has a high vitamin A content. has a lighter consistency than almond and characteristic smell, its cost is also comparable to that of almond. suitable for body oils and lotions. Great for moisturizing both delicate & mature hair.
Avocado oil - rich, heavy, deep green, with lots of skin-nourishing vitamins (a and e). good for dry and mature skin & hair, and also helpful in eczema and psoriasis, best blended with other oils.

Grapeseed oil - Light , odorless, easily absorbed , mildly astringent , tightens and tones the skin, which makes it useful for acne. it is always solvent-extracted, causing sensitivity in some individuals.
Jojoba - Similar in composition to the skin's & hair's own oils, it is quickly absorbed. Good for dry and mature skin/hair and inflamed conditions. Helps to control acne, oily skin and oily scalp. Is an antioxidant - does not become rancid and can prevent rancidity in other oils.
Kukui - very thin, very light , with a strong smell; high in linoleic and linoleic acids, quickly absorbed into the skin, expensive.
Olive - has a strong, foodsy smell, but also good medicinal properties. Is not absorbed by the hair strand properly, does not go rancid easily and can be stored without refrigeration for a year.

I have been collecting this type of info and quite a bit more technical ones of Oil Property Lists from a dozen or so sources, combine them with Ayurvedic view points to come up with the 3 new oils that will be coming out to benefit your body/hair type soon. This new study of lipids and the fact that our body needs them is a fascinating subject to me. I feel companies like DUPONT who are billion dollar companies and make "fake" oils called silicones and esters - have squashed the "natural and organic oil" industry by falsely leading the public to believe that "oil-free" is a good thing. Our bodies require lipids/oils in order to function properly....just one more of those questionable things we have been doing to our body/hair without having the proper research completed. Hey, I'm one too . . . until I took up YOGA, I knew nothing about all of this.
Now, for GLEAM . . . Gleam is the Gold Standard for all hair oils 25% of the formula is Argan oil . Argan Oil is one of the rarest oils in the entire world, its made by hand and stems from Morocco (ONLY), it registers high in lipids and possesses a remarkable ability to nourish and moisturize hair strands.
Argan Oil Properties:
  • Absorbs Quickly
  • Highly Moisturizing
  • Golden in Color with Moderate Viscosity
  • Rich in Alpha Tocopherols (Vitamin E)
  • Rich in Phenols and Phenolic Acid
  • Rich in Carotenes
  • Natural Anti-Oxidant
  • Anti-Inflammatory
  • High in Fatty and Essential Fatty Acids:

    • Palmitic Acid: 14%
    • Stearic Acid: 5%
    • Oleic Acid: 43.5%
    • Linoleic Acid: 37%
    • Linolenic: <0.6%
  • Rich in Squalene and May Help Protect Hair from Free Radicals.
This oil’s high content in oleic acid makes this it particularly interesting in the regulation of blood cholesterol. Some studies are being done and it seems that 2 Tbsp per day of this oil during a month could considerably lower cholesterol levels. Argan Oil is a Highly Recommended Ingredient in Personal Care Products Intended for the Following:
  • Anti-Aging hair & skin + Wrinkle Reduction
  • Acne
  • Psoriasis
  • Eczema
  • Sunburn
  • Stretch Marks
  • Damaged Hair
  • Dry Scalp
  • Frizzy, Curly Hair Control
  • Leave-in Hair Styling Aid
  • Brittle Nails
  • Sore or Stiff Muscles
  • Hair Detangler
Plus the other 3 oils - Abyssinian Oil, Rose Hips Oil, and finally Jojoba oil have just as many positive properties as Argan, I made it to be better than any hair/body oil in existence and I believe it is.
Now, for how to use Gleam. Which is really what this was supposed to be about!
72301808
Gleam was originally developed for one reason: to apply to my clients hair prior to bleaching the hair. It just seemed logical, that if the one and only time the cuticle (on a hair strand) is open is when the coloring process takes place, why not have lipids (oils) on that strand so they can go in along with the bleach or color. Bleach is the one and only product that lightens many peoples hair to the lightness they are seeking, so I am constantly looking for ways to make it a completely non-damaging technique. Its why I only use Levitation Oil bleach on every bleach/tone case, as well as a mixture of Gleam, Blondor cream Bleach and Blondor powder bleach for all my foil-work. As soon as I started applying GLEAM to my Bleach clients -- it was the added difference I was looking for -- the clients and I were blown away at the shine and at the condition of the hair afterwards.
Ta-Da . . . . . . . . . a new Lipid Pre-Treatment was born to the world of hair color!
"Lipids" are really just another name for Oils, they are fatty acids and their derivatives. They are easily stored in the body and are a necessary part of the cell and hair strand. In the hair structure, lipids are present in the inner root sheaths and hair shaft ... lipids provide sheen to the hair and contribute towards its tensile (strength) properties. There is an increase in hair lipids after puberty in both the genders. After a women reaches middle age there is a decrease in lipid content but it is not so in the case of men. Therefore, anything a hair colorist can do to keep lipids in the hair should be well appreciated by all clients. As crib colorists you too, can now watch out for your own lipids by following my lead.
57042034_thumb[1]
Now I apply 2/3 - 3ml dropper fulls of GLEAM to my clients hair before tinting, lightening, relaxing, any chemical service at all, which is what I would highly suggest you do as well. For the help to your hair, the shine, the strength it will render the nominal cost and the tiny bit of time it takes is well worth it. I would not use any cooking oils, they are just not treated the proper way - - unless you don't mind your hair smelling like french fries or donuts.
As I look back and try to figure out why I had not even considered using GLEAM for other purposes other than bleach, the only reason I can come up with is, I was just too busy. .

I cannot remember which of our Killer Strander's it was that first told me about this little trick with GLEAM . . .but it seems so many of you are now applying GLEAM to the hair first using Heat ( the plastic cap and hair dryer trick ) waiting 15-30-60 minutes and finally applying THRIVEN on top of the Gleam for the overnight treatment. Many people have been raving about this method of using GLEAM and the added condition and shine you are retrieving from it. If any of you have have found other uses, PLEASE , be so kind as to share them - helping others is the main theme here at Killer Strands. So there you have it one and all....... the special and wonderful tricks of GLEAM.

Another trick? Apply to fly-aways . . . works wonders, is not greasy and it is truly doing no damage to the hair as a matter of fact it is repairing it while on it, which is why I love the idea so much.

Also a client told me they were using it to de-tangle their hair, which I was fairly shocked at. . . but - hey. . .who cares if it works, and it does!
Use the oil sparingly- it goes a long way . . . while performing some wonderful little tricks with it you will be repairing it instead of damaging it like so many Serums and products out there with an ingredient list longer than the bottle itself. I honestly feel they've done that to spook customers from reading their labels.
All of that does NOT need to be in your hair products. . .You can make a perfectly wonderful daily hair conditioner with 6 ingredients, shampoos are the same way - I simply don't understand why they insist on putting in 30 or 40 (bad & possibly harmful) ingredients in the formula - - when it all can be just so darn simple.

A natural and organic oil like this is NOT good for heat protection (flat irons, etc...) . . the Silicone based products still reign in this department - I still insist you use those - for that reason. I'm hopeful a conglomeration of the two is in the pipeline. . . . cross those hairs!
I have a couple of TV starlets using it when they go in the sun (they live at the beach) while laying out . . . claim it simply works wonders as a sun conditioner.

After listening to many Killer Stranders . . . I finally decided to start trying it on different techniques. I have super long hair and super tangle-y hair, after I washed it....I applied a couple DROPS ( no more) it worked better than any de-tangler I've ever tried. I'm sold & that's a hard sell, I guarantee you.
It can be applied to dry or wet hair, depending on what you are using it for...don't be afraid to experiment with it....I believe you will be very pleasantly surprised.
Rub a little in your skin . . .watch how it absorbs &

Funny part to me - is that now KS readers are pointing me in directions I didn't know existed. . . I LOVE IT ! ! ! Keep them coming . . . . Thank you one and all

Pomade, Pins and Porosity

Porosity means the 'condition' of hair, interested now ?

vis319989

Hair Porosity is the ability of the hair to retain & absorb moisture, determined by how raised or compact the cuticle layers are. Porosity is commonly referred to as the CONDITION of the hair, which affects a lot more than you think! The degree of porosity is directly related to the condition of the cuticle layer - when the cuticle layer is damaged that's when you feel your hair and think, "I must deep condition my hair, get a hair cut or a hair color . . . something is just not right."

73069814

Hair porosity is classified as:

  • resistant : has a tight, compact cuticle layer that resists penetration. Chemical services performed on resistant hair require a more alkaline solution. A high pH raises the cuticle and permits uniform saturation and processing. . . therefore requiring a longer processing time . Cuticle -- Tight = Hair resistant therefore a Longer processing time.
  • normal : is neither resistant nor overly porous. Color services performed on this type of hair will usually process as expected. Isn't "normal" wonderful sometimes!
  • porous: Has a raised cuticle layer that easily absorbs color. Chemical services performed on overly porous hair require a less alkaline solution than those performed on resistant hair. A lower pH minimizes swelling and helps prevent excessive damage to the hair. Cuticle is lifted which makes the color take quickly AND Fade quickly.

badasshair348

Manufacturers write formulation recommendations with average, normal hair in mind -- that is, medium texture and normal porosity. For very coarse hair, very fine hair, resistant hair, or over-porous hair, adjustments are necessary which is a big chunk and the largest percentage of most of your hair out there . . .another of the points not taken into account with BOXED Color Kits, They don't ask, they don't explain and you can see by this Post it is a very important part of each individuals color formula. I solve this when we go through the HHCC Home Hair Color Consultation, making that a better choice than just randomly throwing color on your hair. Its all about education here, that is my goal, I simply hope to get more of you involved.

Both the diameter of the hair strands(texture) and the condition of the cuticle (porosity) significantly affect hair color acceptance.

The Cuticle

Starting from the outside -- in on a hair strand . . .we first encounter the cuticle...which is the tough outer layer of the hair. The cuticle surrounds the inner layers and protects the hair from damage. A strong compact cuticle layer makes for resistant hair, meaning that the hair resists penetration and is difficult to service.

HellaciousHair207

Effect of Porosity on Hair Coloring

Resistant hair takes longer than average to soften and penetrate...therefore should be allowed the maximum timing when processing. Very-low developer volumes ( less than 15 to 20 Volume) won't soften it sufficiently. Super-duper resistant hair sometimes referred to as "tenacious" which is Gray sometimes requires pre-softening or pre-pigmentation.

Hair of normal porosity accepts and retains color normally. A slightly open cuticle allows chemicals in normally, and, once the coloring process is complete, closes enough to prevent dye molecules from escaping. Timing and formulation are normal for hair of normal porosity.

Porous hair sponges up color - it drinks it ---but it releases color quickly, too. It lets it IN and it lets it OUT. A highly raised cuticle is penetrated instantly (so timing is shorter) but it is not compact & intact enough to retain color molecules normally. Overporous hair tends to fade faster than the other 2 classes and may require 'filling' ( a subject I have yet to go into). High volume developers are generally unnecessary and can be quite detrimental on super overporous hair. If the color service is deposit only, a low or no-peroxide color is a gentle alternative (demi-permanent or semi-permanent products are great choices).

Overporous hair accepts dyes differently than that of normal porosity. The more overporous the hair, the more selective its acceptance of permanent hair color (oxidative dyes). With permanent haircoloring, overporous hair tends to reject warm artificial pigment ( red & gold) and accept ash (cool & drab) pigment.

step40h

The problem with many client's hair is: there may be multi-porous hair along one strand, more than one porosities along one strand, YYYepp! What solves that? Equalizing the porosity of the entire head of hair prior to coloring makes huge difference, I am such a promoter of this idea that I carry many products in the store to combat the problem. I am finding many hair stylists don't under stand the concept either. (about 1/4 to 1/3 of our members are licensed Cosmetologists!) I write this to accommodate you the CRIB COLORIST, I want you to be as educated as I was, if you choose to do so. Here are a few of the porosity equalizing products I carry in the Killer Color Clinic hl=enhttp://groups.google.com/group/killerstrands/web?hl=en

  • In Depth by WELLA
  • Malibu 2000 Treatment Packs - Color Prep package
  • Malibu 2000 Shampoos
  • Spray Porosity Equalizer (its on its way for the Killer Color Clinic) which I use on my clients, helpful with blonding especially.
  • Thriven : leaving this on overnight as directed, would be the closest product to regaining some of your original porosity.
badasshair3471Porosity Post

Keep this in mind about porosity: it lasts forever. Once the cuticle is lifted, there is no returning it to it virginal / compact state. Any porosity you create will remain forever, until the hair is cut off and GONE ! Another reason to keep your haircuts regular!

2110_lg malibu_2000_hard_water_weekly_demineralizer

Although normal porosity cannot be restored once lost, treatments such as the Malibu 2000 Treatment Packs that only sell for $3.50 in the store, are of great value, along with the Gold Standard for Hair Conditioning : THRIVEN. Both the entire Malibu 2000 line and my Killer Strands Line of products is dedicated to the porosity of the hair, as you can see its not an easy concept to explain OR understand . . .so I am hoping with this post, I have made it a little more clear at least and expressed the importance of porosity with your hair.

THRIVEN - Killerstrands Own > Deep Conditioner

THRIVEN <> Overnight Hair Conditione

Thriven is Killerstrands Deep conditioner that I developed under the theory that your hair should be treated with as much care, concern and brains that we care for the "skin" with. There are thousands of fantastic skin care products, creams for your face, your eyes, your neck . . they all have very 'pricey' ingredients in them that repair and restore the skins appearance.

I felt the HAIR should have the same. Which is how I began the work into the development of THRIVEN.

Also, the timing. How could I expect a deep hair condtioner to work its magic in an hour or even less, when the great skin creams work they get the overnight timing of a minimum of 6-7-8 hours at night...That is how Thriven works....it must be applied and left on overnight...

So my theory was pretty much "common sense". Common Sense has helped me through life in so many wonderful ways . . .and again it has pulled a brilliant idea out of the air.
Enjoy

mI thank every single one of you, and if I didn't get a chance to shoot you a "thank you" I apologize - - the thing is ...

I've been busy thanks to all of you,

that is a good thing... a really really good thing.

Being so busy gave me a full week of health and smiles - so thanks all -

once again this site has been the most amazing experience for me.

Who would have thought, on the Internet -

I would have had such amazing experiences and relationship forming...

just blows me away !

Comments on THRIVEN by readers

....I have purchased and tried out Thriven and am absolutely delighted! My hair is, to put it mindly, beyond damaged, with the ends having gone through bleach highlights, overlapping lowlights, weekly flat ironing,
chlorine, SLS shampoo, and, last but certainly NOT least, Japanese hair straightening. To put it mildly, my hair has zero bounce, shine, or pliability. It hangs, with tons of breakage, split ends, and you name it. I purchased the Thriven from KC, and have only used it two times so far. My hair has much less frizz, is more flexible, and hangs much better. The hair that is not damaged and virgin (that I've been growing out and is about 8 inches at this point) is shiny, lustrous, and manageable. I wanted to share my experience with this wonderful conditioner, and this is without having used the supplement (no time) but I will incorporate this soon. All the knowledge and expertise that KC is so selfless to share with us is certainly reflected in her
product, and I am very grateful to have found this jem of a website. Thank you very much, Dakota! --June 9, 2008 -- Irina -- Forest Hills, NY

...There are no animal products in it as far as I can see. You will not be disappointed with Thriven. I'm on an intense hair treatment where i use Thriven every other night because my hair is super thrashed. I've been using Thriven for about 4 weeks now and the condition of my hair is LIGHT YEARS better than before I started on Thriven. Try it! - Kathryn S.-- North Hampton, New Hampshire

. . . .I have used Thriven twice now and I am so pleased. I am an African American woman with 4a curly hair that I can honestly say is thriving (pun intended). This is the first product that I've used that has given such great results in such a short time. My mane is smoother, has more body and just looks so alive. Last night I shared the product with my daughter who has 3a curly hair that is damaged and over processed with chemical relaxers. She went to bed with straw and after a thorough rinse in the morning had hair that was so smooth that she could comb it with a fine toothed comb without one snag. The comb glided through as smooth as silk. She couldn't believe it!! I expected to see a significant improvement in the texture of her hair, but even I was amazed at the magnitude of the change. Think we're not believers???!! Merle -- Baltimore, Maryland

. . . .If only everyone could be as thorough, focused, and ethical in their chosen profession as as Dakota the world would be a much better place.. Hands down,Thrivenis the best conditioner ever to grace MY spoiled goldilocks. My first reaction when I twisted off the cap and breathed in the fresh aroma ofThrivento the delicately clingly consistency was that it was "Alive". And sure enough, I swiped my fingers across the Cap ofThrivenand it covered all of my hair and made it instantly pliable. IMPRESSIVE! And it smells so great and it doesn't drip! Also, it feels great after rinsing it out not like other conditioners that feel great under the water in the shower and then leave hair totally dry after rinsing.
I laughed at all of my high-end conditioners that basically feel like clumps of lard being combed through my hair. Bottom line here is that NOTHING else has worked on my hair regardless of price. I have paid exorbitant amounts of money on my hair and it is broken in the back of my head from high end hairdressers frying it off. Which is precisely when I quit the salon except for haircuts and started doing my own hair which is on the road to recovery. Anyway, I forseeThriven saving me tons of money in conditioners because I will no longer purchase them and the amount of Thriven I need to use is so tiny in comparison to other products. I can't think of one product I have ever used that was a "dime size".
Oh yah, one last thing, my husband is Not allergic to it and he is highly allergic to fragrance
I think KC's name should be changed to KGC, Killer Genius Chemist Mrs. M -- Miami Beach, Florida
. . . .KC, I just want to let everyone on the blog site know what a wonderful product your THRIVEN is and how much I look forward to every Wednesday and Saturday nights to do my hair treatment with it. It massages beautifully into my scalp - soo soothing and creamy. Then I massage it through my hair, wrap it in cling wrap, put a woolen cap on and leave it overnight. I used it for a month twice a week before bleaching my hair with your oil bleach and I just couldn't believe the difference in my hair. It went from straw like which it was from the boxed color kits to feeling like virgin hair again. After bleaching my hair I continued with THRIVEN again for another month and my newly bleached blond hair really looks like virgin 'celebrity' hair. I have just placed another order with you. Thank you for sending it. Now I think I read on one of your blogs that I can use THRIVEN as a daily conditioner - can I use it as a leave in conditioner? Please advise otherwise thanks for a really great product. All Killerstrand clients
should really try it and see for yourselves the results. Anna - Zambia, Africa

. . . . Killer Chemist is out of the office right now, but will be returning later in the week.PS - I used a tad of Thriven as a leave in the other day - my hair usually falls flat under anything remotely conditioner like - not with this. Looked pretty, not greasy, all day. Just thought I'd drop a hint. I highly recommend ordering the Thriven - it has done amazing things for my hair as well : ) orders are submitted to KC via an email w/order in the subject line, she'll send you a pay pal request & the order will be out to you real quick. CRISP - San Diego, California

. . . . .Okay - I'll try to be articulate in my posting here. I have started using Thriven. You sleep in it. I have tried LOTS of expensive conditioners, mostly in vain. I leave it straight and make it blonde (with high lift so far, but may be changing that). I have regrettably had some very bad colorists - and paid a lot. But the last one over processed my hair. The previous ones, the hair went orange. The "good" one that specializes in color correction, got it
blonde, but it got thrashed in the process. She sold me "Deep" (about $24 for a toothpaste size tube) and I'd do that with EVERY shampoo, and still could not get my hair to quit looking like straw. I deep conditioned it with every shampoo, let it air dry, and it still was miserable. I had the bottom 3" cut off, and the end result was that the last two inches or so, it still looked like a splayed out, worn out toothbrush. It was so bad even my DH noticed. I got Thriven, and from the FIRST time I tried it, my hair was happier. Before, no matter what conditioner or leave-in I tried, my hair still looked and felt thirsty and dry. NOTHING helped. The Thriven has soothed it - I know that isn't a real "hair" word, but that's how I'd describe the change. The hairs don't splay out at the end (my cut actually looks better, since the hair hangs together). I was ready to have another 3" cut off - trying to rid myself of that old overprocessed hair... and now, I won't. The "healthy look" is back.
Not having to cut another 3" off my hair, is priceless. Regaining the healthy shine, is priceless.
Wanting to actually LOOK at my hair without flinching - is priceless. I haven't used it long enough (I'll need 90 days, I think) to see if I can help it get thicker. But I'm probably going to order some for my Mom, who has the old-lady pink scalp thing going and a bald spot at the top.... I'm that convinced.
I look around me at work, in stadiums, on the train... and at other women's hair now, and I just want to take them aside and give them KS blog info, and say, "You have got to try this... your hair looks so dry and it fixed mine...."
I'm trying to be too superlative, but finding the Holy Grail of hair conditioners after 30 years of trying, is wonderful.
Go for it! Nikki -- Oakland, California

. . . .Hey, I received my bottle of Thriven, and after only two treatments, my frizzy hair is gone, and it even has a shine to it, first time in about 5 yrs. Thank you, thank you, thank you. I will be ordering more when this bottle runs out. You didn't say how much to use, so, I have been using about 1/2 oz. or less. Love your product. Vickie --
February 20,2008

. . . .I started using Thriven overnight twice a week...it's been about 2 1/2 weeks maybe? It was shipped really fast. The thing with my hair is that it wasn't that damaged. I took a little breaking to mean it was destroyed...but I don't have the straw-like feel so many people mention. My hair doesn't look damaged to anyone else either. I'm
paranoid though and worried that the small amount of breakage meant I was in big trouble so I ordered. I'm glad I did though. The 1-2 punch in only 2 1/2 weeks or so has made my hair seem thicker. I have a TON of fine fine hair. Now even though it's fine I feel like I have this huge mane. In the files section you can see my hair- that's after I straightened it though, which I do VERY rarely. It looks a LOT thicker without the flat iron.
Anyhow, I think it's great stuff. I am also a student (non-traditional returning student) and I live extremely paycheck to paycheck. I saved up a bit and invested though and I think my hair is worth the price of Thriven :) - - - Jog/Jenna/Jen -- Saco, Maine

You did a great thing by purchasing Thriven for your hair. Good job! Did you use it yet? If so, you probably no longer need my testimonial. I have only minor damage in some areas. Although my hair always seems thirsty for moisture. I am thinning a little on top. So will have to use a while longer before I can tell any difference. I am however confident that this will eigther cure the thinning or help it considerably. Today started my 2nd week on Thriven. The best way I can describe the difference I feel and see is to say it was like given my hair a V8. You know how using regular conditioner seem to only soothe the hair so much acting more like a coating on the hair).Well I feel Thriven is truly penetrating into the hair shaft!! Feeding my hair from the inside out. It's amazing! You'll be so happy! I'll keep you posted on the thinning issue. . .Tamara - Coral Gables- Florida

I reccommend the 8 OZ. as you need this +

the secret supplement that comes with THRIVEN,

  • Unusual hair thinning in past 10 + years
  • Unique hair LOSS in past & present

The program consists of 2 Ingredients within the 10 Steps

10 Tough Steps that truly need to be analyzed so that you understand why you are doing them. I have tried just laying them out, I find that does not work. In the Clinic when I have people actually sit in my chair, they pay to listen to what I have to tell them.

I need you to do the same

You are purchasing THRIVEN and the Secret Supplement which shows me that you are serious about the Regimen. The reason I think this has worked as well as it has? Its really not that hard.

You should know in 90 days if this protocol will work for you. That is not very long. I have found if programs are too long most of you will lose interest. Part of the thrill of 10,000 HEADS for me ?
Sometimes a client will show super results in the first week after 2 THRIVEN treatments and a week of the supplement.
I am not kidding, about 10-15% of all my clients have (almost) immediate results and that sets them all a flutter ( & me too ).
So I hope and pray that will be you , I know it sounds weird but when that happens it gives me the biggest smile for the entire rest of the day. It just fill me with a wonderful sense of accomplishment!

This protocol was actually founded by a number of unique accidents - so the fact that it works the way it does I feel was given to me by God. There is no other way to explain it. That's how crazy it is to me.

This protocol began 50 years ago, stemming from my fascination in the body, the hair, the make-up, the chemistry, the beauty and the health of the body. Born and raised here in southern California, there really was no way around the way I grew up. My entire family and extended family are professional athletes as Hollywood Stunt men and Stunt women. This puts you and tour mind set into having a healthy body from an infant. My one daughter did a stunt- baby commercial when she was 4 in diapers where she fell from a high plank into a trampoline for the "BOUNCE" sheets you put in the dryer... at 4 years old! So that shows you how long sports - health - take care of your body- is drilled into me and my kind. Its just been the way I live my life, and once I moved over into the world of HAIR, I found some of the tricks of being a professional athlete were helpful in the health of hair.

I was also lucky enough to have a terrific father that afforded me and my brothers the wonderful luxury of being raised a healthy jock my entire lifetime. We rode motorcycles, water and snow skied , raced cars, sailed, played tennis, raquetball and the list goes on and on and lived a terrific life thanks to him and his concern for us that we do the things he never could as a child. I just feel doing all those things, showed me how taking care of your body from the inside ---> OUT, is as important as Outside --> IN.

So many of us today are so busy with our lives...we simply do NOT take care of our bodies, the way they should be. That is one of the main reasons for all the hair loss and damage right now ... I wanted to conquer that big problem on my own.
This may sound crazy to you, but in the hundreds of people that came to visit me in the beginnings of my Clinic (BS - before Sick, I call it) I cured about 90% of them.
That is HUGE, in my opinion.... the deal is with my background, I don' t seem like the likely candidate for solving this big of a problem . . . come on - I get it....I'm still baffled at my luck . . .

I keep waiting for it to stop working . . . . . .and you know what? ? ?

It DOESN'T

About 1/4 of them took about a full year, but . . still ...............their hair was cured.

Many of you won't want to do some the steps...
Your too tired
It costs too much
I'm over it.. ..
whatever all the excuses . . . I hear . . . . but the deal is . . . .
I had 2 years of no hair, I KNOW HOW IT FEELS
I don't know if there is anything worse than the thought of NO HAIR
even though you will hear me say:

It truly is - only hair

I am posting this as a test . . . Blogger has just informed me there is a problem with my BLOG. Saying it has been tampered with – which I am sure is a result of those mean comments a couple of you made...... you know if you don’t like the blog, I just don’t understand why you even waste the time – there are so many other places you can go. Different strokes , but please don't ruin it for the others...

I am very upset as I was going to start my new series on the 10,000HEADS Regimen – Up Close and Personal, having always wanted to go in depth on the 10 Steps for the readers. So instead of risk losing that post, I am going to gamble with this one and see if it works and what happens. Hang in there . . . I promise it is coming.

THRIVEN : Birth of a Real Hair Conditioner

Holy Grail of Hair : Sometimes an accident is the Best Solution

A recent review from a Killerstrander (who is worthy of the CRIB COLORIST AWARD am thinking of giving out) who recently received my own concoction hair conditioner . . sparked an idea, to tell you all the story I tell my clients that have sat in 'the chair" <> or how the old 1-2 punch of 10,000 HEADS was born.
Here is the most recent review of THRIVEN my Overnight Deep Hair conditioner and 2 part system for damaged and thinning hair, which was the beginning of the 10,000Heads protocol.

Subject: Re: About Thriven
If only everyone could be as thorough, focused, and ethical in their
chosen profession as as Dakota the world would be a much better
place...

Hands down, Thriven is the best conditioner ever to grace MY spoiled
goldilocks. My first reaction when I twisted off the cap and breathed
in the fresh aroma of Thriven to the delicately clingly consistency
was that it was "Alive". And sure enough, I swiped my fingers across
the Cap of Thriven and it covered all of my hair and made it instantly
pliable. IMPRESSIVE! And it smells so great and it doesn't drip! Also,
it feels great after rinsing it out not like other conditioners that
feel great under the water in the shower and then leave hair totally
dry after rinsing.

I laughed at all of my high-end conditioners that basically feel like
clumps of lard being combed through my hair. Anyway, I forsee Thriven saving me tons of money in conditioners because I will no longer purchase them and the amount of Thriven I need to use is so tiny in comparision to other products. I can't think of one product I have ever used that was a "dime size".

Oh yah, one last thing, my husband is NOt allergic to it and he is
highly allergic to fragrance

I think KC's name should be changed to KGC, Killer Genius Chemist

_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
How sweet is that? I've had dozens of compliments and that one encapsulates them all. Thank you Mrs. M.
About 6 years ago, my daughter was struggling with damaged and thinning hair ( at the age of 19-20). At the same time I had just gone thru my radiation treatments and was in the same boat, so within my chemistry studies I started playing - the more I read and studied - the harder it DID NOT SEEM. The light bulbs came from reading about the similarities in hair and skin, I'm sure most of you realize that skin care products are loaded with all sorts of new and creative "actives" "vitamins" and ingredients for moisturizing the skin and replacing lipids lost from sun and age. The moisture loss process in skin, is the exact same moisture loss in hair . . the exact same way, but to date no one was putting any of the slick new tricky skin ingredients in the hair products. The large companies just don't think people notice the difference in hair conditioners, and I do not understand why. I believe there are thousands of people just like Mrs. M who buy and continue to buy hair conditioners up the YING-YANG in search of one that works, I used to do the same thing and I'm on the "inside". Being just one little person out here in California trying to solve the above described hair conditioning problem for myself and my daughter, why in the world can't the big companies with all their chemists do it? Which is why I went on the mission in the first place.
By having some of the more expensive ingredients in the formulation of THRIVEN it only made sense after about a month that it needed to be left on the head and hair for more than 30 or 60 minutes. The top-of-the-line face creams are put on for 8 hours at night, and hair is the same make-up as skin. That was my **BREAKTHROUGH**I wanted to start treating hair more like skin, as good as skin. We don't think twice about a $30.-$40.-$50. cream for our face, then a $20. Wash and a $10.Toner then a $40. foundation makeup with vitamins and mineral makeup for $40. and on and on and on. Most don't spend a fraction of that on their hair. RIDICULOUS I say....totally ridiculous.
BE FAIR TO YOUR HAIR AND SHARE THE $$$..If you want your hair to be healthy you must consider this theory, it has worked for most all of my clients out here. I'm a healthy hair fanatic, I turn hair down to color if it is over colored, damaged or not ready...its rare to find Stylists that will do that.
I truly care about your hair, its just IN me, to.
A couple months after we first applied THRIVEN we went to the slumber party method. Applying it overnight and letting the hairs enjoy themselves ;-). Once we began the Slumber method of application, our hair began to change. Both my daughter and I had put our hair through Hell, hers was every color on the color Wheel, putting 'black' in against my judgement and needing it cut out, my main issue was all the drugs, radiation and surgeries I had just gone thru. We both started to notice changes with damage and tangling and frizz.
My daughter has a husband who is a Stunt Man (big surprise) and he has lots of professional athletes around him as a result. They had a group of Olympic athletes staying with them and the athletes had heard the problem of my daughter not eating breakfast her whole life. She's a beautiful, very thin blond, funny, Malibu surfer, movie producer (now 26) and not eating the best meal of the day just was not a wise move on her part, especially with the hair issues and trying to resolve them. The athletes made a suggestion to her to begin eating breakfast by taking this particular supplement that is available at Target (even) , every day, which is the last half of the 1-2 punch.
At this point I knew nothing about this.
She came to get her hair done 6 weeks after this and I nearly dropped my drawers. WHAT IN THE HELL HAPPENED TO YOUR HAIR ? ? I think were my exact words. Her hair looked like it did when she was 12 . Long, thick, gorgeous, it was the single best turn-a-round in hair I had ever seen. Truly remarkable.
After discussing everything we had been thru with THRIVEN and then adding this new supplement...we decided it was the combo of the 2 and WHAMM BAMM, BINGO . . . .
THE MAGIC MIRACLE <> THRIVEN <> WAS BORN.
I don't think she bought my theory at the time, but the minute she left I ran to Target and got my stash
It took 4 weeks .
My hair did the exact same thing.
I truly felt I had discovered the Holy Grail of Hair.
We were enjoying our yummy delicious hair for quite some time, until all the people sitting in my chair were complaining of hair thinning / loss. One of the most common complaints a hair stylist hears now-a-days, that when I came up with the protocol called 10,000HEADS - Hair STRENGTH System. Taking all the experience from working on over 10,000Heads of hair over the years, the chemistry knowledge and then the THRIVEN/Supplement Accident to come up with 12 Steps for 10,000HEADS System.
Step 1: THRIVEN
Step 2: SECRET Supplement ---> both of these are mandatory
sb10063609e-001 the next 10 need to be followed as closely as possible. Do not brush off, please.
> > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > >
Step 3: Nutrition ( 12 points)
Step 4: Shower Filter + Shower Water
Step 5: Smoking (nothing should be smoked for healthy hair)
Step 6: Hair Color
  • must be professional or best color one can afford.
  • NO BOX HAIR COLOR KITS (other ways to go cheap)
  • the blog is here to teach you this step, no excuse
Step 7: Shampoo - SLS-Free - buy the best you can afford
{remember how much you spend on make-up}
Step 8: Stress -this includes getting rid of all electrical devices and walking in the sand or dirt or grass ALONE. . . all alone. No IPOD. No phone, no nothing. Un-stress your life, please. This is mandatory 40 minutes per day 3-4 days per week.
Step 9: Drugs / Alcohol -- None to Social if need be. I know there are lots of younger people...but I have had a group of pro surfers quit their drinking as they came to me with tears in their eyes about their hair loss. We reviewed everything and they were doing the normal for that age and group : smokin and drinkin. I had them quit and take up YOGA. It cured 2 out of 5 + improved one other guy.I felt that was significant. If you are testing your triggers, to try to figure out what your is, quit drinking for 90 days, that seems to be about the shortest you can get away with for testing "triggers" longer is better but you should be able to make an honest truthful guess.
Step 10: Hair Tools . Limit the use of all Hot electrical tools. Flat Iron, Blow Dryer, curling iron, etc.. Especially the flat Iron.
Step 11: Yoga and Exercise
Step 12: Water . Drink at least one Liter per day. Every single dayvortex.jpg.
Take care of your hair FIRST . . . boys & girls.

Hair Today - Gone Tomorrow -- Female Pattern Baldness

For women, balding or hair loss has more serious consequences for quality of life than for men

Dealing with this issue in droves has indebted me to the degree of difficulty this problem is posing for a huge portion of the women in America today. To date . . it is not spoken openly about, addressed regularly, or even reported on with much interest and I'm not sure why. One thing I know for sure, is that it is a HUGE huge problem and it is only getting worse - by the month - by the week - by the day. It concerns me deeply so approx. 4 years ago when I first noticed it growing out of control, I began my research. Casual at first, intense as the days went on.

I know I am not a whiz bang MIT trained research scientist, about the farthest thing from...BUT, I have worked on over 10,000 heads of hair, spent 3 years studying cosmetic chemistry, learned the art of microscopic hair analysis and most importantly had the problem myself and owned hundreds of clients with it as well - that are now completely cured. A pretty decent resume and history in my own mind, I guess and hopefully in yours.

I'd like to begin the next couple months ongoing series of Hair Today Gone Tomorrow with my experiences reading and analyzing a particular study performed in Japan that I found extremely helpful & hopeful. This study examines the efficacy of the hair growth promoter t-flavanone on female pattern baldness. Now before I lose you, I better bring it on down to earth . . Over 2000 natural plant extracts were tested

as an herbal medicine that promote the proliferation of hair follicle cells. t-flavanone is more commonly known as Hypericum Perfortum and has been regarded as a salve, a gargle and an herbal tea with an excellent robust effect.

The types and degrees of hair problems for women vary with country and races, however they can be roughly classified into 2 groups: frizzy & less volume. The reports are that fewer women than men suffer sever alopecia (hair loss)but for many women the hair density and hair diameter decrease as they grow older. Reductions of hair volume have a great impact on appearance.

For women, balding or hair loss has more serious consequences for quality of life than for men. On

e characteristic of hair loss in females is a widespread and diffuse balding area that differs considerably from male pattern baldness and makes it more difficult to diagnose alopecia in women. Its the manner in which the hair is lost that is deceiving. . . men lose up the power alleys, on top of the head and along the hairline so it is noticed much more. With women it is an all - over even loss of hair - much more difficult to notice by the eye. The woman herself of course, notices, the ponytail is thinner, the general bulk of the hair continues to deteriorate.

The hair cycle consists of three phases. In the anagen or growth phase, hair matrix cells grow rapidly, extending the hair shafts. In the catagen phase, hair matrix cell growth is diminished and epithelial cells around hair bulbs undergo apoptosis (death of cell). In the telogen or resting phase, hair follicles shrink and stop growing.

The anagen period of normal human hair growth is as long as 4-7 years, but is some kinds of alopecia, it gradually become shorter and finally decreases to only a few months. As a results, the hair does not grow to be hard, thick terminal hair, but remains as thin, short vellus hair and enters the catagen phase. I have learned that thick hair is produced during the anagen so it is important to act on hair follicles during that phase to improve hair volume. To make hair thicker for effective hair growth promotion is is necessary to increase anagen hair and also to maintain the anagen period of each hair follicle.

Previous work by Kao Corporation in Japan and one scientist named HOTTA has identified both a planet extract with hair follicle stimulation activity and an in vitro model for testing the effect of factors on the developmental processes of the hair follicle.

Now this is the part I found fascinating, in order to determine the efficacy of the t-flavonone to treat female baldness the authors in Japan performed a double blind placebo controlled study on 23 Japanese women.

Based on the authors system of classifying female pattern baldness with scores from I to VIII ( Figure 4)

the women received scores from II to VI. 13 were assigned to the group treated with t-flavonone and another 10 women were assigned to the placebo group.Test materials for this study were lotions with and without the t-flavanone active ingredient at .1%. Subjects applied lotion twice daily for 24 weeks to all scalp areas around the balding area ( the parietal area).

From a square 5mm by 5mm in the parietal area at the beginning and end of the 24-week test, the hairs were removed at the scalp surface by cutting. The cut hairs were weighed and counted and the hair diameter was measured. The weight of the hair treated with

t-flavanone was found to increase by 9.4% while that of the placebo decreased by 4.7%. This result was statistically significant. With regard to the number of hairs the hair diameter the group with the t-flavonone tended to improve more than the placebo group.

A much larger efficacy study happened next with 54 women selected with significant hair loss levels. This time 28 with the t-flavonone and 26 in the placebo. The time frame was the same, but this time photographs were taken, a Phototrichogram was performed on each subject ( see inset)which basically measures the diameter of the hairs and finally Dermatologists evaluated the general effectiveness of the 2 treatments.

As shown in Table 1, 22 of the 28 subjects in the t-flavonone treated group were evaluated as improved by visual evaluation ( 19 were improved slightly, 2 were improved clearly), while only 7 of the 26 in the placebo group were classified as improved (ya gotta wonder about those?!!!?!?) checkout the great example in Figure 5

While the average diameter of all hairs from the observation spots significantly increased by 13% in the group treated with t-flavonone, it decreased in the placebo group by 5.0% The average diameter of anagen hairs also increased by 12% . Both of those difference are statistically significant.

Figure 6 shows the results of the dermatologists judgements on general effectiveness: 82% of the group treated with t-flavonone and 27% of the placebo group were evaluated as slightly effective or better. The differences are statiscally significant. I just think this is such an easy - simple solution and why it is not in many formulations is beyond me.

THRIVEN and 1 of its secret ingredients : T-flavonone

I have incorporated t-flavonone into THRIVEN taking advantage of its colorless, odorless and ethanol soluble properties making it easy to use. I feel the formula needs to be on the head overnight 1-2 nights per week and if possible used as a daily conditioner as well. Whether it be T-Flavonone or a number of other unique ingredients in the formulation the fact remains the 1-2 punch of 10,000HEADS - Hair Strength System works and works well, I hope to get many of you signed up to the protocol.

This is one of the many unique approaches I have taken to the formulation of Thriven, it is unique, innovative and ground breaking. Over the next couple months I will be going through the unique additions to the formula I have come across in my studies and will incorporate them into the series Hair Today and Gone Tomorrow so be on the watch.

Conclusions

These studies prove that t-flavonone increases the diameter of female hair and thus improves female pattern baldness. t-flavonone is a useful ingredient that can help women who are troubled with hair loss or lair with less volume. The usefulness of the t-flavonone lotion to treat female type baldness was 82% and that is revolutionary.

Therefore THRIVEN is revolutionary
